For a traveller like myself, taking a peaceful vacation, especially to a beach destination, is the best way to celebrate a birthday. This year, I went for a trip to Langkawi to celebrate my birthday. It was a long-awaited trip since the two-year travel restriction due to the pandemic. In this Ritz-Carlton Langkawi review, I will share everything from my personal experience.
This trip was 3 days and 2 nights. We wanted to experience different resorts so the first night we stayed at Berjaya resort. I had also written about the amazing experience there in this post.
The wonderful highlight of the visit was our stay at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi. This luxury hotel in Langkawi is truly one of a kind.
Checking In
The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi is situated at a secluded and far away from all the happenings in Langkawi.
When we arrived at the guard post, the guard was extremely welcoming.
After getting dropped off at the front entrance, we were greeted by the staff who served us delightful tea while walking us through the check in process.
The moment we stepped into the lobby to check in, we were totally immersed in the Zen feel of the resort.
The vibe was DIFFERENT.
Ocean Front Villa at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi Resort
For our stay, we had the Ocean Front Villa. Each villa has a slightly different view.
We got Villa 1 which is located at the very end of the resort. Because the resort is so huge, they also provide buggy service to bring guests around within the resort.
When we arrived at our Villa. We gasped when we saw how stunning our villa was.
Our spacious villa is around 2100 square feet and it is designed in contemporary style with Malaysian accents.
And the best part?
It comes with a private pool and outdoor sundeck facing the beautiful ocean!
The hotel staff had shown us around the villa and cautioned us to always secure the room doors because the neighbourhood monkeys were known to break into guest rooms. However we never did encounter any monkeys on the site, but we followed the rule anyways.
Surrounded by rainforest, each villa is set apart from the others, ensuring complete seclusion.
The villa has an entrance door and walkway to your villa. It made you feel like going back to your home.
The inside of the villa is very spacious, consisting of a living room, dining area , bedroom and the bathroom.
I wonder if their king-sized bed was actually an Extra King-sized bed, because it is super huge and VERY COMFORTABLE!
The resort advertises their bathroom as the oversized one, and I think they are right. The full marble bathroom features a separate big bathtub area, a shower area and the sink area. The bathtub was by far the largest I had seen and it can easily fit two persons.
The bathroom was well-lit, with accessories and luxury Asprey shampoo and lotion sets.
The Horizon Bar at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi
If you are planning to come for a birthday trip, do write a note to state that you are celebrating your birthday so they will decorate your room with flowers and cake.
Although we did not mention it during our booking, we only informed the staff during check in, so they managed to arrange a cute cake on the desk while we were out.
Bar And Dinner
In the evening, we took a buggy ride to the Horizon bar area to watch the sunset.
The vibe was very chill and the sunset view was absolutely stunning! We sit on those cabanas sipping the cocktails while enjoying the sunset view.
Hai Yan Restaurant
During our visit, most of the other restaurants were closed for renovation and only Horizon and Hai Yan were available. So we reserved a table for dinner at Hai Yan.
I’m not usually a fan of hotel restaurants, but I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the dinner at Hai Yan was!
The staff recommended roasted duck and Ma Po Tofu. Although the pricing was slightly higher, the food was worth every penny! The design and the setting inside the restaurant were also remarkable.
Breakfast at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi
The next morning, we were very lucky to wake up to a wonderful sunrise.
We were laying on bed enjoying the sunrise, watching the sky turn from dark purple to bright yellow.
On a side note, not every Villa has the sun rise view. If you wish to wake up to a spectacular sunrise, make a request to the hotel personnel. We were fortunate to be arranged to this villa with a sunrise view. Our villa is on the opposite end from the Horizon Bar, so we get to see the sunrise instead of the sunset.
And due to the hotel being fully booked, they had two slots of breakfast session for guests to pick.
We wanted to stay longer to watch the sunrise and enjoy the morning by the pool so we picked the 9 am slot and took the buggy ride to the breakfast place in the hotel.
I did not have any great expectation on hotel breakfast but their breakfast really surprised me! Even better than most of the cafes out there.
Not only did they have a wide spread of choices at the buffet area, there were also a diverse range of a la carte items from the menu.
The environment was very nice. We had breakfast surrounded by trees and listened to the bird chirping. It was really relaxing.
Beach And Pool
Inside the resort, there is white sandy beach and 3 public swimming pool areas. They have a beachfront pool, an adult-only infinity pool at Horizon Bar and a vitality pool. I would say the infinity pool at Horizon Bar is the best swimming pool. The Andaman Sea and the infinite edge merge seamlessly, giving you the best view of the sea.
There is a private beach area in the resort. We intended to go to the beach but we forgot as the private in-room pool dominated our attention.
The Facilities
The hotel also has other facilities like fitness centre, Kids area, tennis court and the one and only on water Spa in the island! Overall, Ritz-Carlton Langkawi is suitable for all range of visitors from family to new-wed couple.
Also, there are a range of water sports and activities available at the beach area.
We were there only for a short stay so we did not have enough time to try it out. But we would love to revisit The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi again next time!
When we learn that The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi was known as one of the Top 5 Resorts in Asia and also Top 25 Best Resorts in the World by Condes Nast Readers’ Choice, we know that it is truly one of the resorts that visitors to Langkawi should not miss.
Checking Out
On check out day, we made the most of our day relaxing at the private pool in the morning and then it was time to check out and head home.

I have been to Langkawi a few times a few years ago but I have never seen this side of Langkawi. Staying at The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi left me a unique yet memorable experience and I am still missing every aspect of it few months after.
From the friendliest hospitality service to the architectural design of the villa to the amazing food, this is truly the island paradise! You do not feel the need to step out of the resort during the stay.
Within the lush tropical rainforest of Langkawi, The Ritz-Carlton Langkawi is a true hideaway that oozes luxury, peace, and serenity. If you are looking for a short getaway or honeymoon stay at Langkawi but not sure which resort to go, I highly recommend this resort.
