This year we celebrated my birthday at Langkawi Island.
We went for a 3 days and 2 nights trip. There are a lot of good resorts in Langkawi Island and after reading the reviews we decided to spend each night at Berjaya Resort Langkawi and The Ritz-Carlton.
We decided to stay at Berjaya Langkawi Resort because it is the one and only chalet on water resort in Langkawi!
Getting To Berjaya Langkawi Resort
It is only a 30 minutes flight from Penang Airport and I strongly recommended flying to Langkawi because the scenery from the plane was breathtaking.
When we arrived, we rented a car to drive around Langkawi. We considered taking a Taxi or Grab but we decided on car rental for convenience.
It was a 20-minutes drive from Langkawi Airport to Berjaya Resort. The Berjaya resort is located at the edge of the tropical rainforest.
The entrance to the resort lobby is about a 5-minute drive away and along the way we passed by the Resort’s Tennis court and Cable car station. Prior to the entrance, there is a cable car station which could bring tourists to the skybridge.
Checking In Berjaya Langkawi Resort
The resort is designed in Malaysian styles with the majority of the decorations in wood.
The resort staff greeted us very nicely and the manager served us welcome drinks while explaining to us everything offered in the resort at the Lobby bar with a view down to the resort’s white sand beach.
The resort is large but because it is set amidst the tropical rainforest, it is still walkable.
If you don’t want to walk, they also have the buggy car service to ferry the guests around within the resort. We only need to call for buggy service from our room and within 3-5 minutes the buggy will arrive at our chalet.
Room and Amenities
There are many different types of rooms offered by Berjaya Langkawi, for people who love to be secluded in the rainforest will pick the rainforest suite while if you like to enjoy the sea-view you would love the one facing the sea!
For our stay, we had the Premier Suite on Water type which is the one that has the endless sea view.
As the name implies, it is a chalet-style room on the sea so each room has its unobstructed view of the sea.
One thing to note is that Berjaya Langkawi is also the only resort on the island with individual chalets on stilts. We thought it was a special experience to stay at an island home!
While the luxury wooden hut was standalone from each other, the distance of each suite was not very far away. Overall, we get to experience the tranquility of staying in a chalet on water resort.
Although the suite was a little old, it was well-kept and very clean. One of the reasons that this suite caught our eyes was because this suite type featured the outdoor lounge and jacuzzi !
One thing to shout out is that they offer a complimentary mini bar area which included all the snacks and even alcohol drinks as well! This is the first resort I came across that offered complimentary mini bar. Too bad I was too indulged in the courtesy and forgot to take any photos of the amenities.
We particularly enjoyed the jacuzzi so we spent our evening and the next morning in it overlooking the view of Andaman sea while listening to the soundtrack of soothing waves.
The suite was so comfortable that we spent most of the time in the resort reading books on the balcony looking out to the beautiful ocean.
Dining
The seafront resort comprises 4 restaurants and 3 bars. However, we were told by the manager that 2 of the restaurants were closed for renovation. There was two restaurants available, one was a Thai food restaurant and another one was the romantic dinner by the sea. I was craving for Thai food so we picked the Thai Food restaurant and made a reservation.
Pahn Thai Restaurant
In the evening, we walked from our suite to the Thai restaurant in the resort which is named Pahn-Thai Restaurant.
The Thai restaurant was situated on the water and we had a seat by the sea. The ambience at the restaurant was so romantic!
When we got there, it was still early evening, so we got to enjoy the beautiful sunset while having our Thai dinner.
They serve a la carte menu and also set dinner menus.
We ordered 2 dinner sets as there were so many choices that we wanted to try. The portion was just nice for the two of us and I especially liked their dessert!
Beach and Facilities
Private Beach
Our package included a complimentary breakfast for two.
The next morning after breakfast buffet, we went for a walk at their swimming pool and beach area. The pool is large and it’s only a few steps away from the white sandy Langkawi beach.
Facilities and Water Sports
The beach was a wide stretch and there were plenty of water sports to experience at additional charges.
The water sports available are ATV, jet ski, beach soccer and many others! You could easily spend a day or two in the resort with these thrill activities.

The resort is old but they are doing great job in taking care of the resort’s cleanliness. The hotel staff were very welcoming and the buggy services were efficient and well on time. The resort also has its special location and the one and only chalet-on-water experience that no other resort can offer on the island. If you crave the natural feel of “living on the sea”, this chalet on water Langkawi resort is the one that you should not miss when visiting Langkawi.
One thing that I would expect for improvement is the breakfast buffet. There was not much of breakfast choice and the environment of the breakfast place was not on par with the standard of a 5-star rating resort. However, the dinner experience at Pahn-Thai restaurant was great and I highly recommend dining at the Pahn-Thai restaurant.
I also noticed that this resort is a popular spot for marriage proposal! Maybe is the secluded and romantic feel of this resort that made it the ideal location.
Overall, the stay was a pleasant experience and if you are wondering which Langkawi resorts to stay , I would recommend Berjaya Langkawi Resort for either family stay or couple’s staycation if you crave the rainforest feel!
